3. Will Grey water affect my plants and my soils ?
- Grey water with the inappropriate detergents can affect some plants and have long term effect on soils.
- It is strongly recommended to use Grey water friendly detergents with low Phosphorous and low salt content.
4. Can I water my lawn area with Grey Water ?
- Grey water sub-surface irrigation of lawns has been achieved successfully in many places.
- The Grey Flow systems do not come with any long term protection against root intrusion.
- The Grey Flow systems can be purchased with 200m of the Kiss/GF dripline (dripline wrapped in geotextile).
5. How much maintenance work does the Grey flow requires ?
- The quality of Grey water varies a great deal between households. Recommended maintenance works with the Grey Flow are :
1. Clean filters once a month (spare filters are provided for quick changeover)
2. Flush system with chlorinated water twice a year
3. Wash float sensor once a year
4. Top-up mulch in garden area once a year
6. How can I irrigate my gardens when I am away from home?
* The easiest and cheapest way to use you grey water system to water your garden when you are away is:
to use a battery operated tap timer to one or you troughs or sinks. Cross connection to existing systems are not allowed.
7. Can I connect the Grey Flow system to my existing irrigation system?
- Absolutely not. No cross connection is allowed. .
- In addition standard irrigation systems cannot cope with the poor quality of the grey water
8. Can I water a garden area smaller than the required minimum ?
- No, the minimum areas have been set so as to protect our ground water resources and our environment.
- It is however possible to reduce the number of fixtures connected to your grey water pipe.
- This will help in reducing the amount of Grey water generated and would allow for reduced irrigation area.
9. Can I water a garden area larger than the recommended maximum ?
- Yes it is possible but your garden may not get enough water during the peak summer months.
- The Grey flow can be set to carry several stations.
- Only manual 3 way valves should be used as automated solenoid valves are not able to cope with the poor quality of the grey water.
